New comment on "How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues?"

LinkedIn Groups

Jonathan, Google is not the only game in town as you seem to imply. Microsoft Live offers similar connectivity for free, more space, and better compatibility with Outlook. There is also Zoho Office, which is more feature rich than any of them, especially if you are looking for granular control of permissions per file. Each of these can be "upgraded" to a paid version as well, that provides more features, better connectivity, even more storage, or some combination thereof. AND none of these require access to a social account like Google does - a key component to many businesses that are trying to curb employees socializing on the job (and no, this is not a commentary of if this is good or bad, but a fact).

My point is, while you are advocating for google, it read to me at least, like that is the only option available for easing into cloud computing for office based activities. But for many, it isn't a valid option due to the requirements, and moreover isn't even necessarily the best option in many/most cases - especially if using Outlook for managing PIM information.
