New comment on "How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues?"

LinkedIn Groups

Computing uses equipment which provide resources; storage for information, processing power to work on it and connectivity between various bits of infrastructure. Cloud computing is the practice of providing resources that users can take, use and put back any combination of those resources based on their needs. This is in contrast to non-cloud environments that might require a lot of specialist effort to set up and tear down, and may be only offered in fixed combinations.

Think of it as being able to order a pasta entrée off a menu and leave once you've paid the bill, versus the old way of having to pay for a fixed price eight course banquet for twelve people regardless of how hungry you are or what your budget is.
