Group: Cloud Computing, SaaS & Virtualization Discussion: How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues? I frequently am asked to speak to organizations about security and virtualization and where they connect. In order to set a baseline I typically ask the question " If you have a virtualized data center, do you have a cloud?" Suprisingly enough the response I get is YES. To that I then go on to educate my audience in what is the generally accepted definition of cloud and that is the NIST definition. Simple 5 things to consider 1. Must be on demand 2. Self service 3. Measurable 4. Uses a pooled set of resources 5. The apps will run on just about any platform(PC,Mac,smartphone,tablet) So if your virtualized data center meets ALL of the 5 criteria you have CLOUD, if not you have almost a rain thing Posted by Jim Brigham, CISSP
