The short form definition of cloud computing is a "style of acquisition of managed services". Understand "services" here in the ITIL definition -- Means of delivering value to customers by facilitating outcomes customers want to achieve without the ownership of specific costs and risks. But this puts the burden on the user to know and know how to evaluate what they want. The cost benefit evaluation can be difficult. Moreover, from a sytems governance perspective, lower unit (however defined) costs tend to allow proliferation. Posted by Woyach Frederick
