Group: Cloud Computing, VMware, Virtualization and Enterprise 2.0 Group Discussion: How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues? Sure.. How is entering into a binding multi-year agreement with Control Data Corp any different than whipping out credit card for a few hours of AWS ? A few cycles of a a 4 bit mainframe is just the same as a multi-tier cluster of 6-core VMs with a pre-installed development environment including OS, database, languages, etc....and and HEY ... those punch cards were pretty handy ... Carving out and tearing down terrabytes of RAIDed fibre channel disk is highly overrated. And as for broadband ... don't get me started !! a 300 baud acoustic coupler was just dandy back in the fifties !! Remember !!! "Cloud" is just MARKETING SPEAK !! Ain't nothing different about it !
