There is very little interoperability, for example, among IaaS providers, such that you cannot move your virtual servers from one to another, or for that matter, moving your data from a SaaS provider such as Salesforce.com to another competitor. This, however, is not much different, IMO, than an Oracle shop having a difficult time moving over to DB2 or SQL server once they have gone down that path.
