New comment on "How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues?"

LinkedIn Groups

US NIST is soliciting input for their draft cloud computing definition. I responded to a thread and offered to the working group (1) recommendation (below) which I post here for your consideration and thoughts:

I am an Architect (of buildings) with a dream (and plan) for a service to make our world's Building Information accessible.

As such, I love the Cloud 'metaphor' as used to describe network securities and found US NISTs 2-page document very valuable.

In participating in many Cloud Computing Forums on LinkedIn and elsewhere, I am finding no one using US NISTs term 'Community Cloud.' For me, the 'Community Cloud' is at the heart of using the Cloud 'Metaphor' (not a paradigm) to secure Business to Business, Business to Consumer & Business to Government transactions. The term that our current US NIST definition uses (Community), unfortunately, to me, elicits a less secure, and public sector in nature environment.

My simple recommendation is to substitute the word 'Project' for 'Community' within US NISTs 2-page document. The word 'Project' conveys an enterprise environment that is secure. And as a nice bonus, Project is shorter, easier to speak and begins with the letter 'P' as does Public and Private.
