Group: Cloud Computing, VMware, Virtualization and Enterprise 2.0 Group Discussion: How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues? I try to compare it to the client's infrastructure as it stands currently. If they are currently virtualized within their datacenter, they are using Cloud technology. (albeit a Private Cloud, but a Cloud nonetheless) It's about using resources in a way that maximizes their limits...the same is true in the Public Cloud, and in the Hybrid Cloud. When describing the Hybrid Cloud, I like to use the floral industry as an example. Certain times of the year (Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Easter, etc.) they need more compute resources than others (Groundhog Day). Instead of investing in the additional resources for those moments of need--they can leverage the Cloud to scale out and then scale down when they don't need it any more. Posted by Rawls, Nicole
