Group: Cloud Computing, VMware, Virtualization and Enterprise 2.0 Group Discussion: How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues? Great question. I will answer it from an IT professional stand point as my explanation for the end user is very non IT. Immediately most people think of internet based services as 'Cloud' (Public Cloud), but this is where I like to point out that 'Public Cloud' Services are only about 50-60% of the market. The other is Private Cloud and of course we have then Hybrid Models as well. In any case, Private or Public, for me it is a new IT delivery and consumption model born about from internet based technologies and the upcoming digital warriors who the thirty somethings and are use to self service IT. These digital warriors are becoming the next generation of management and expect this delivery method of IT services to be the 'norm. Not just business as usual (BAU), but personal as usual (PAU). It is about squeezing more from all the advances in virtualisation technologies and adding service management to allow even deeper embedding of business process into IT to give the end user control and access in a much easier (for them) manner.
