Paul, Here are a couple of ways we explain cloud computing to colleagues, and customers. In a nutshell, Cloud computing is an approach to computing that leverages the efficient pooling of an on-demand, self-managed, virtual infrastructure, consumed as a service. Another definition of Cloud Computing is from NIST: Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g. networks, servers, storage, apps, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
