New comment on "How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues?"

LinkedIn Groups

Cloud Services (to an end user\customer) can be easily explained by comparing with our daily used electricity. We (as users) are not aware\concerned about the things detailing it's backend -

Grid capacity how many Mega Watts\Kilo Watts (Data Center Server\Storage Capacity),
Where and how from it is getting generated (Data Center Location),
Transmission line (Networking),
Generators used (Technology\Hypervisor used),
Transformers used (Signal boosters\transitional equipments used).

We as an end user pay for it, monthly usage of electricity and it comes to you as a service at your door steps. Similarly Cloud computing as a service is Offerred to end users\customers in various flavours depending on their work\business needs.

1. IaaS: Infrastructure-as-a-Service
2. PaaS: Platform-as-a-Service
3. SaaS: Software-as-a-Service

Important and easy to explain being Saas, Any application hosted on a remote server that can be accessed over the Internet is considered a SaaS.

Services that you consume completely from the web like Netflix, Some common SaaS applications used for business include Citrix’s GoToMeeting, Cisco’s WebEx.
