Group: Cloud Computing, SaaS & Virtualization Discussion: How do you explain cloud computing to your colleagues? Interesting how even people in the IT industry quickly gravitate to the public offerings as an explanation of the definition of cloud. While in fact there is a whole other genre that can be offered within your own data center. Whether it be private or public cloud the simplest way to define this label is essentially IT as a service. IT services have been around for a long time but have not always been characterized by the offering. E-mail, ERP, and Web are simply the end result of the technology we group and present to the customer in a form of services. And finally there are some really game changing technologies for private cloud that automate the delivery of IT services such as HP Cloud Systems Matrix or even Cisco's Intelligent Automation for Cloud (CIAC). These applications automate and will forever change the IT service delivery business - IMO. Posted by Edmund Young III
